I’m excited to say that I made a significant amount of progress on my project this week.

I was able to make good progress on the stripes in the first days of this week.

I completed the main body, and next I had to separate the legs.

Separating the legs is what I was most scared of with this project. Throughout the formation of the body I was able to practice the stitches, pattern, and colour changing techniques. The separation of the legs was scary, but ended up being much easier than I had anticipated. Thankfully, I was able to figure it out on the first try. The most challenging part was counting all my stitches to make sure the legs were even (there was 194 stitches by the final row!).

And finally, the shorts are done!

This was a wonderful learning experience for me. I was able to overcome challenges and mistakes and I think I can officially say I know how to crochet. I am very excited to try some new projects and continue to develop this skill in the future. Next time I attempt a project, I hope I can look back on this process and remind myself that setbacks can lead to a more successful product. If I could go back in time, I don’t think I would have changed a thing. My recommendation to new students coming into this course is to take this opportunity to learn something you have been putting off or felt too busy to begin. Maybe starting with a more simple project would have made this assignment easier and quicker, but I am proud of the wearable item I was able to produce and I cannot wait to wear my new shorts this summer. I think using online resources and videos, such as YouTube tutorials, was the most effective skill.
